How I Met Your Mother - The Final Page: Part Two (2012) (episode) Boo!

English Here we go again. What the creators have dished out many times before made a comeback. I'm getting sick of Robin's relationships — they're like a Gatling gun, firing off the same rounds over and over again, just switch the ammo belt, and repeat. And if it wasn't bad enough, I also got treated to an oh-so-funny storyline with the kid. / Lesson learned: Feeling romantic? The rooftop of a skyscraper gives you two options.

How I Met Your Mother - The Final Page: Part One (2012) (episode)

English I won't pretend that I didn't notice an improvement, but on the other hand, I won't pretend that I was satisfied. The whole Barney's curse angle was cool, giving me a reason to bump up the rating a bit compared to the earlier episodes. However, the creators' attempt at another moral lesson left me unimpressed. Their efforts felt pathetic; someone hitting me with the revelation that I should start with myself if I don't like something about others doesn't exactly qualify as groundbreaking philosophy. It also felt like the writers assumed we were all suffering from collective memory loss, implying Robin's main beef with Patricia is her relationship with Barney, even though she was yelling at her long before that. Moralizing on shaky grounds? Yeah, it's just plain cheap. / Lesson learned: When you've got the skills, you can bend facts to suit your needs.

How I Met Your Mother - The Over-Correction (2012) (episode)

English At last, an episode that was kind of pointless, but at least it gave me a chuckle. Only a tiny one, though. The episode was on the weak side, but the whole concept of borrowing Ted's stuff did salvage it to some extent. I can totally picture the frustration of lending something out with a neat tag on each piece and not getting it back. The notion of an unreturned label maker even got a legit laugh out of me. / Lesson learned: If they won't return your stuff, punish them with a 1*+.

To the Lake - Season 1 (2019) (season)

English I finished watching Season 1 a year and a half ago, and I was horrified to discover that I hadn't reviewed the series. I don't like to review shows that aren't fresh in my memory. This time I have to because I don't think I'd give it another go. I could do it, but I really don't feel like it. I was looking forward to this Russian series, only to find out that it's not actually all that Russian, or all that exquisite. The first season strongly reminded me of the later seasons of The Walking Dead – that is, the ones that I wasn't enjoying anymore because the story and logic went to hell. / Lesson learned: There is a little good in every bad. In this case, it was the song.

How I Met Your Mother - Lobster Crawl (2012) (episode) Boo!

English This is just plain awful. You know, when I see a little kid plucking petals off a daisy, doing the whole "He/she loves me. He/she loves me not." routine, it comes off as cute. But if I catch thirty-year-olds doing the same thing, it's not amusing at all. If I find it cute, you might as well take me out and put me down. A terrible episode. / Lesson learned: If you're over twenty-five, time to level up mentally.

How I Met Your Mother - Twelve Horny Women (2012) (episode) Boo!

English The creators once again tossed aside everything that made me love this series. Instead, we got another episode with next to no ties to the main storyline, and like the ones before it, it didn't deliver any decent laughs. The trial felt completely unnecessary, and comparing criminal pasts? Yeah, I wasn't impressed. / Lesson learned: Thinking about changing the world? Maybe start with something smaller.

I Never Cry (2020)

English I thought this was going to be another typical coming-of-age story of a teenage girl who’s searching. Searching for her place in life, a purpose, a way to escape a consumerist society, freedom – searching and searching and searching while making everyone's life a living hell. The Polish filmmakers, however, came up with a different story. The main character was indeed searching (somewhat belatedly) for a way to her father. She was a bit selfish, didn’t give a crap about the environment, and had trouble saying please or thank you at least occasionally, but I found her very relatable, much to my own surprise. In the end, it turned out to be a very different film from what I was expecting. While it wasn't exactly an action-packed film full of suspense, I oddly couldn't tear myself away from it. Polish cinema deserves praise yet again. I really liked Zofia Stafiej in her debut. This being her first role, it sure was a tough job. / Lesson learned: If you're going to transport a body, do it only in powder form.

Coraline (2009)

English It’s been a while since I last watched an animated film, and I was quite pleasantly surprised by this one. It wasn't exactly a masterpiece worth a five-star rating, but the animation was great. I really enjoyed the dark, almost horror-like atmosphere, which was strongest in the last third, but it had seeped out here and there even earlier. To be honest, the atmosphere could have been even darker. I wonder what the film would look like if it had been directed by Tim Burton. I'm sure it would be right up his alley. Either way, the story kept me entertained, and it did give me a chill from time to time. If you want to give your kids a good scare, make a little fake door in the wall, have your kids watch this film, and have a lot of fun while consoling them from their nightmares. Coraline definitely ranks among the better animated films, and I'm not opposed to rewatching it sometime. I'm glad to see that filmmakers are still making nightmare fodder for kids. / Lesson learned: It can always get a little worse.

How I Met Your Mother - The Stamp Tramp (2012) (episode) Boo!

English The creators seamlessly continued their streak from the previous episode, offering a plot that had almost no ties to the main storyline and, honestly, zero laughs for me. I found myself wondering why they even bothered. I could only come up with one plausible explanation. It feels like even the writers themselves are no longer fond of their creation. It's like they're churning out episodes solely to make viewers disgusted with the characters. And, well, it's working on me. / Lesson learned: If you've made it this far, it might be time to call it quits.

How I Met Your Mother - Splitsville (2012) (episode)

English Positives: the dog was gone, Marshall did not search for his inner goddess. It's a bit sad that these are the highlights. The sixth episode fell into the same pit of uninteresting plotlines as many before it. Yet another breakup was tackled, and while the whole lack-of-sex thing could've been funny, it's getting repetitive, so it didn't really earn any points either.  / Lesson learned: Feeling horny? Try pushups.
