Subterranea (2015)

English This film has a good idea, which at first glance you can tell probably won't work very well with only unknown actors, of whom there are not many, and everything is so cheap on the surface and the direction is shaky. It's independent, maybe even a bit amateurish, but you have to appreciate that it's still a film that wants to say something. Unfortunately, it just didn't have the resources.

Seminole (1953)

English A western with a message? I guess it's not that strange, because westerns with cowboys and Indians were pretty normal, while this one tries to show that neither side is downright evil, which actors like Anthony Quinn and Rock Hudson try to emphasize. Both are fine, but neither can save the naively stupid happy ending that comes at the end of the film.

Ride to Glory (2013)

English I confess that I don't understand the madness surrounding the Tour de France. It's the race where you see the athletes doping the most, but millions love the race anyway. Perhaps that's why I didn't like the film - its ending only confirmed it, because it's almost silly and not funny enough to appeal to the masses as a good comedy.

Joe Bullet (1973)

English Joe Bullet is South Africa's answer to blaxploitation, and it actually features black actors, a very bold move for the 1970s in this country. However, this also led to the film being banned for a long time and only recently has it been released, even on DVD. As a pulp film, it's definitely worth a look.

Hired Gun (2016)

English I like rock music, so I liked this film as a preview of what this music is actually all about, or rather how it is made. You know the names of celebrities, but you don't realize that behind their success are musicians whose names are not heard that often. I like the film for its interesting insight into certain personalities.

Cult of Chucky (2017)

English If I ever think of Cult of Chucky in the future, it will probably be because it's a film where the doll character still works and is just as scary as he was in the first film. Chucky is so well designed that he loses none of his scariness. But then I will remember the film only because it's a mediocre spectacle, both within the horror genre and within the series. There’s nothing here to dazzle or really scare you.

#Stuck (2014)

English This is a romantic comedy - although not very romantic or much of a comedy - that neither delights nor offends. The characters aren’t so bad that they put you off watching it, but they also don't manage to lure you in in a very fundamental way. That’s too bad, because they could have been worked with and they could have easily captivated us.

Twin Peaks - The Return (2017) (season)

English I can't rate the show, or rather its third season, as something beautiful or great. Nevertheless, even though there are sequences, parts, and concepts that don't sit well with me, the third season still managed to affect me just as strongly as the first two, and in a completely different way. Lynch is so far along in his concept of film/series that you either continue to play his game or you don't. I guess he's got me so wrapped around his finger that I just stared at the way in which a series can be made.

Wind River (2017)

English This is one of the best thrillers of 2017, and 2017 isn't over yet. However, I doubt that The Snowman will be nearly as good. It's suspenseful, it's dramatic, and it's depressing, and there are great characters, with Renner and Olsen being a great pairing, not to mention that the supporting roles are also good. Life on the reserve is wonderfully captured, as is the beauty and eeriness of nature.

Vangaveeti (2016)

English This is a classic Indian film, where you have singing, and you have characters that are supposed to be likable on the surface, but the difference is that this is not a romantic drama with comedy elements. This is a film that is trying to tell a real story, and a pretty gritty one at that in certain parts. It's not that bad at all.
