Veronica Mars (2014)

English That's how it goes when kids play grown-ups and embark on solving tricky crimes. It’s as believable as a fool, and it doesn't even remotely resemble the mystery genre. The romantic storyline didn't help either, as it was pretty bad. I haven't seen the series, and after watching this movie, I certainly won't be wasting my time with it. (40%)

Are We There Yet? (2005)

English In the context of family films, it's not as awful as the reviews here might suggest. I think child audiences might be entertained by this comedy. I found the overdone ending the most bothersome. (50%)

My Cousin Rachel (2017)

English Philip's behavior got on my nerves, as it did for many others, but that doesn't mean I'm going to condemn the whole film because of it. I've always liked the British playwright Daphne du Maurier and Roger Michell captures the emotional turmoil of the main character and the mysterious atmosphere of her novel quite well. The film's positives also include successful period costumes and beautiful locations in which the story takes place. Whether Rachel, the cousin, was a calculating vixen or a woman troubled by fate is something we can only speculate about, but it's not necessary to have an answer to every question. In real life, there are a lot of unanswered questions too. (70%)

Roubaix, une lumière (2019)

English Essentially, it's a standard detective story that may not offend, but unfortunately, it doesn't impress either. The narrative is too drawn out, and a shorter runtime would have definitely benefited the film. However, the performances of Léa Seydoux and Sara Forestier are noteworthy. (60%)

9/11: Escape from the Impact Zone (2012) (TV movie)

English The stories of survivors and archival footage of people throwing themselves down from the top floors of the building in desperation will probably give me chills for a long time to come. Moreover, 9/11 seems to have gone down forever in the horrific history of mankind. I'll never erase that day from my memory either. (85%)

Les Misérables (2019)

English Given the title Les Misérables, I would have expected a bit more of a connection to Victor Hugo's famous novel, so I'm quite disappointed. The beginning of the film and the intense ending are okay, but the subplot with the stolen lion cub seems a bit contrived to me. I was bored quite often while watching the film, not to mention that it was impossible to sympathize with anyone at all. (65%)

Goliath (2018)

English The main character, Kimmie, finds himself in an unenviable situation on the threshold of adulthood, having to decide what to do with his life, where to direct it, without causing harm to his loved ones. Outwardly, he looks like a tough guy, but his sensitive soul occasionally flashes through the tough skin. The social drama Goliath doesn't show Swedish society in optimistic colors, it is appropriately raw in a Nordic way, and thanks to the unfamiliar faces, it feels very realistic. Sebastian Ljungblad in particular gives a very convincing performance in the central role. Also noteworthy is the stimulating music, provided by Johan Testad. (80%)

Doctor Strange (2016)

English I usually avoid comic books, but I was lured by the stellar cast. Surprisingly, I didn't have any major reservations about the plot, so I have to say that I quite liked the film, much to my surprise. However, I will not become a fan of the Marvel world just because of Doctor Strange. (70%)

Beautiful Boy (2018)

English The painful story of a father and his drug-addicted son, written by life itself, is enhanced by very convincing performances by Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet. The proverbial icing on the cake is the absolutely perfect soundtrack. The final excerpt, compiled from the thoughts and feelings of Nic Sheff, caught my attention so much that I got the urge to read both books. (85%)

Breakthrough (2019)

English I'm an atheist, but I believe there is something between heaven and earth. Breakthrough is a film based on a true story that seems quite unlikely. However, even in my life, there have been some moments unexplainable by reason, so I am willing to admit that after intense prayers, a miracle somehow brought the drowned son of his mother back to life... Debating Chrissy Metz's weight in this case seems rather pointless to me. Sometimes I really marvel at what some individuals are capable of writing. (50%)
