The Tomorrow War (2021)

English Pure-blooded military sci-fi for dads and their daughters. An interesting story structure, where things don’t follow one after the other and the biggest punch up doesn’t come at the end; it works well and you don’t get bored. McKay successfully surfs on the waves of humor and pathos, but manages to shoot serious scenes too. Surprisingly the biggest strength of The Tomorrow War lies in the emotional sphere. The action is excellent, only at places it seems rather video-game like, but it’s mainly the small scenes which go against the pulse of today… about the traditional family values and about the fact that wanting more is bad for a relationship and can kill you… these scenes carry the whole thing along nicely.

Moana (2016)

English The beautiful turquoise blue and Hawaiian atmosphere make Moana one of the most beautiful new Disney movies. The story has usual plot twists enriched by the legends of the island states. And mainly there is Maui with the face, voice and muscles of Dwayne Johnson. A self-obsessed demigod who charmed even my little daughter. You're welcome!

Headspace: Unwind Your Mind (2021)

English These interactive games are simply too much fun not to research them. Basically, it’s something between reading a story before going to sleep or meditate. It’s supposed to calm you down and it works great.

Infinite (2021)

English Over the top drivel with a demented script. The idea of reincarnation isn’t all that bad, but where have the flashbacks into past lives gone? Fuqua is still good at his craft and deals out one action scene after another. And it doesn’t matter that they are full of unexplained nonsense. The ending is even more absurd that something out of Fast & Furious. Marky Mark doesn’t even try acting, but the show that Ejiofor puts on as Bratwürst is almost perversely funny to watch. That eye-rolling freak with a super gun whose motivation is…ending of the continuous boredom in the womb before being born? Hey, come on now!

Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)

English A naive and, in places, pretty stupid story about a spoiled liquidation of a forensic accountant and his family. The murderers are clumsy morons. The fire is too digital in places. The main female character is not even likeable. And to top things, zombie Jolie looks like she has already committed suicide not that she’s only just thinking about it. Bernthal is the only safe and reliable actor here, but when it is the wife who has to save The Punisher, there must be something wrong. A great disappointment; I was expecting much more from Sheridan. Even From Paris with Love was slightly better that this. P.S.: The only thing missing is that Angelina keeps him, because that’s what she always does.

Friends: The Reunion (2021) (TV movie)

English Nostalgic memories and the evil of time are the main themes here. Matthew Perry has aged terribly. It would be impossible to shoot another regular episode. It would just be too depressing. But the memories luckily work well. Messed up shots, stories from shooting the series. Only the embarrassment is Corden, who pushed himself into the role of anchor and only proves how far modern "humor" has gone downhill.

Wrath of Man (2021)

English To begin with, Wrath of Man looks like a Statham classic about a dude with a clear moral compass who eliminates gangs that rob armored cars. GTA style. But I was mistaken. The tough, focused approach chosen by Richie and maintained till the very end reveals that he has grown up at last and can deal with his ego if the story needs it. No music-video type editing and, whenever there is a one-liner, then it’s sexist and homophobic, plus cruel and bloody action. The combination of Zahler’s approach mixed with a Mann’s crime movie works like a well-oiled machine. Benstead’s music amazingly highlights the unpleasant, almost chilling undertones of the whole movie. An excellent role for Eastwood.

Army of the Dead (2021)

English You should listen to Daddy! A perverse action B-movie that is pleasant to watch, despite its length. As most Netflix productions, it stays somewhere half-way between cinema and TV. Snyder blew logic to smithereens (nuked it) and in the end they no longer even try to explain anything. Maybe he just skimped the job. He simply presents what he finds cool and you just have to take it or leave it. The zombie tiger, walking through the traps, the totally over-the-top ending in the helicopter. The disco.

The Bone Collector (1999)

English A solid detective thriller from the times when Angelina was still breaking through and trying to act. The bookish twist perhaps suits the book better, but works in the movie too. Quadriplegic Denzel rocks, even though he only has his mouth to act with. I didn’t like the overly sweet ending.

Without Remorse (2021)

English It’s hard to hide my disappointment. You have a star-studded creative team, and the result is a mediocre and corny Seagal movie from the nineties? Sollima offers merely easy-to-follow action, but it’s slow and uninteresting, lacking a single memorable moment. So poor Michael Jordan ends up having to carry the whole movie on his shoulders, but has nothing to act because Sheridan’s screenplay doesn’t allow him to plunge into the psyche of a man who lost everything. It lacks the solitude and even the suffering quickly dissipates. I’d be interested how much (or little) this version has to do with the original book. P.S.: Willem Dafoe was better than John Clark.
