The first film in Takashi Miike’s ‘Black Society Trilogy’ portrays a world of alienation that finds its expression in rape and murder. In this twilight world, where gangster and law enforcer attract and repel each other in waves of violence, Tatsuhito, a dirty cop pursues the gay Chinese warlord, Wang, through the night world of Shinjuku and over to Taiwan.
