One of the most complex questions ever asked: What were surrealists looking for in the documentary film genre? Hobbies provides at least a partial answer – probably because it was made by a surrealist. The film pays homage to all amateur inventors and to those adults who have remained faithful to their childhood dreams. All is portrayed by a representative of what Dubuffet termed l'art brut.
