Explorer Sakari Pälsi travelled to North East Siberia in 1917, taking along a handoperated cinematograph and 4,000 metres of film. The result was a unique documentary and travelogue. A hundred years later, director Kira Jääskeläinen returns to the Bering Sound. New and old film material, Pälsi’s notes and local people open up a fascinating window into the world of the Chukchi and the Siberian Yupik Eskimos of the past and the present.
