A humorous and surprising Argentinian experiment in lo-fi aesthetics about a girl's trip to an alternative music festival. Shot on grainy VHS, the film resembles something dug up at a Sunday flea market or found buried among the sort of old home movies that the eponymous Lucy might enjoy. She is, after all, a person who likes to avoid the trappings of the consumer lifestyle: she found all of her furniture on the street, and she only wears second-hand clothing. And she also does not take her job-selling insurance over the phone-seriously. Lucy could be the protagonist in one of Linklater's early films, and her adventures at the above-mentioned music festival, maneuvering her way among a variety of people and situations, listening to indie rock, taking part in pointless conversations, and making unexpected observations are like a postcard from the pre-digital era. People and events are marked by fluidity and a certain lack of precision that perfectly reflects the psychosomatic state of vacation: boredom and euphoria, moments of freedom, and quickly formed friendships. 1996 Lucy and the Corpses in the Pool functions like a time machine, transporting us to an alternative place and time and posing a daring challenge to our memory and nostalgic fantasies about the 1990s.
