From a Night Porter's Point of View

A portrait from 1970s Poland of a factory watchman obsessed with discipline, penalising transgressions and harassing other people on and off the job. The main character appears to be a symbol of an attitude characteristic of some of the ardent supporters of the Communist system, and although he is not completely repulsive, his totalitarian inclinations are disturbing.
