In a moment of bravado Solan enters into a secret bet with dairy manager Ollvar O. Kleppvold. Solan bets Reodor's workshop and the house they live in, as he is convinced that he can ensure Flåklypa the victory over Slidre in the Cheeserace. Without telling them about the bet he persuades the inventive Reodor and the anxious Ludvig to join his team because he believes that no one needs to know about what is really at stake beyond the honor of the village. But when Kleppvold gets the goon Emanuel Desperados on his team, in addition to council member Olram Slåpen from Bergen, Solan realizes that the victory may not be as safe as he thought.
