Aleksey Balabanov's thirteenth film, where he - similarly as in Brother (1997) - goes back in time to 1990s' "bandit" Petersburg. This time, the main character is not Danila - who has his life in front of him after finishing his military service - but a stoker who has resigned on the outside life. It penetrates his boiler room anyway - in the form of both living and dead bodies, making him a part of a tragic game of absurd nihilism. (Summer Film School)
