Plots(1)
Dunne and Knox are a pair of married writers living near an Army base. In order to find out more about military life, Knox joins up. He finds theres more to the disciplined lifestyle than he thought as he tries to compete with kids half his age. Meanwhile, Dunne is stuck at home trying to cope with the domestic troubles that such a life brings. Coburn is the publisher who desperately wants Knox back at his old job. There are some wonderful parodies of Hollywood life as well when Dunne fights it out with film producer Pierre Watkin. This is based on a fine play by Ruth Gordon which she wrote after experiencing a similar situation during the war. Dunne is fun in the role (originated by Gordon on Broadway), and Coburn is the quintessential grumpy publisher. The direction is excellent with a good feel for comic timing and some nifty satires on army life. Some of the humor is a little sophisticated and may be missed by the less astute members of the audience. (official distributor synopsis)
