Dramatization of Edna Ferber's acclaimed novel about the Oklahoma land rush of 1888. Among the settlers who staked claims on this land are Yancey Cravat and his young wife Sabra. Over the next forty years, we follow their progress, as a scheming rival steals their land, and Yancey starts up a newspaper. Although he has a moral center - even going so far as defending their rival when she is arrested for prostitution - Yancey also has a wanderlust and leaves Sabra alone for long periods of time.
