The film takes place in our days in Northern Hungary, at the Ukrainian border, where most people live of smuggling. András, the skilful grocery owner is made impossible by the Mafia and so he is forced to join the night-time fuel oil smugglers. He gets caught here as well, looses all his investments. Due to his heavy debts, he turns to his former boss, the fat cat of the underworld for help. He has to smuggle a package through the border in a given time. His girlfriend, Anita volunteers for the action instead of him, however she makes the acquaintance of a folk-music collector Ukrainian boy, Alex. Anita falls in love with him and because of Alex she breaks up with the coarse and family man András. But for Alex only the acquisition of the package was the goal. András is warned by a red rose and the Mafia conveys the punishment for the treason: he is shot. (official distributor synopsis)
