The Prince of Capri gives a party in his London residence. He realizes in the last moment that the number of intended guests is thirteen. The footman gets hold of a vagabond in the street, dresses him in a tail-coat and introduces him as a guest. This is how Jim Jeffries gets into the most distinguished company, and taking advantage of business opportunities he is informed of at the party, soon becomes a rich man. As quickly as he reaches the top, he falls again. First he is arrested on suspicion of murder, than for tramping. With the help of a nominal marriage he is released and goes to America, where he starts a transport business and grows rich again under the name Riche Richson. A millionaire girl, Claire, falls in love with the smart young man, Riche. However, it is soon revealed that he is already a married man. The deceived girl travels to Europe and makes friends with Jane, inviting her to be her lady companion. Jane Jane later turns out to be the girl with whom Riche married in name. The two young people not having seen each other before, because they married with blindfold eyes, meet again in america and fall in love with each other. At the end of the nominal marriage becomes a true one and Claire finds consolation with the secretary of her father. (official distributor synopsis)
