Mitumba: The Second-Hand Road

Well, the idea is excellent, but the execution is purely average. It lacks more decisive editing, with the documentary indulging in long shots of endless piles of sorted textiles or genre scenes of poverty in African cities. For what it aims to convey, the film is either too long or (more likely) lacks deeper analysis, more facts, and visual material. The musical background is also poor – those drawn-out harmonica sounds will unfortunately linger in my ears for a long time... Overall impression: 55%. (2007-08-18)
