Éva's marriage is a disappointment. Her husband, Péter, neglects her. She finds comfort with Márton, an old love of hers, who gives her the kind of attention and tenderness she is in need of. She wants a divorce. She is about to tell Péter about it, when her husband, returning home upset and utterly despaired, tells her that he has gone bankrupt. She now feels it is her duty to stick by him. Following the advice of a poor relative, Sándor they move out of their villa on the Rózsa Hills to move to a one room flat on the outskirts of town. Having to put up with these hardships, their poverty helps them find their happiness together. (official distributor synopsis)
