Julián Endre, owner of a toy factory, lives the life of young gallants swapping mistresses every other day. He lays eyes on Kántor János's daughter, Vera, who is about to take her final exam at grammar school. Kántor is a police inspector. Julián takes her to his cottage in the country, where the girl realises that she is in fact no exception for Endre. Apparently, all he wants is some weekend love-affair. They are out in a boat rowing, when, realising what the man is up to, she tries to back away from him, causing the boat to capsise. She disappears in the water and is not seen coming to the surface again. Endre tells the bad news to a police inspector who is the father of the girl. In the meantime Vera turns up. The young man is overjoyed to see her alive, but she refuses to talk to him. Uncle Reményi, a friend of Endre's father's, seems to like this girl already, who, he thinks, is so different from all the others, therefore he acts as a mediator, helping the young couple to make it up.
