This film tells us about a small group of over a million foreign workers, who cultivated the ground at day-rate instead of the recruited German peasants, for a full year in 1943. The destitute cotters, who do not see beyond their small village in Szabolcs, hope to get rich and avoid being recruited. They work on the German estate with no break, closing their eyes, although there is a POW camp nearby and they keep bumping into dead bodies and hear shooting all the time. The village is happy to welcome the wealthy emigrants from America. They are just telling them about the death of the pulmonic Ábris in the pub, when the postman brings three SAS summons.
