Clooney plays Calaveras Kate, a saloon owner and songbird who has her eye on the town's big shot, Jason Carberry (Carson). But when a romance fails to blossom, a frustrated Kate decides that a handsome cowpoke is the seemingly perfect device to use in her attempt to make Carberry jealous enough to marry her.
