The Unrelenting: Under the Surface (E01)

The existence of highly radioactive waste from nuclear power plants means that we have to find a way to store it safely for hundreds of thousands of years. The question is not if, but where. Every country that uses nuclear power is bound by international treaties to take care of spent nuclear fuel in its territory. This, however, means that the countries will have to cope with technological requirements as well as major psychological, social and political barriers in the process of selecting the final storage site. The filmmakers talked to representatives of the state, activists, citizens and local governments of towns that have been shortlisted as potential locations of the deep nuclear waste repository.
