Biography
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Richard Lewis continues to amaze audiences with his singular performances as a character actor with rich and bursting personality. Credited with performances in countless titles, he is best known for his recurring role on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," in which he plays a caricatured version of himself in contemporary Los Angeles. Lewis began his career in stand-up in the early 1970s writing jokes for others before performing his own material in New York City. Using Johnny Carson's "The Tonight Show" as a launching pad, Lewis began his successful stand-up career featuring televised showcases, many appearances on CBS's "The Late Show with David Letterman," and multiple Ace nominations for Best Stand-up Comedy Special. His tours have been filmed around the world, and audiences have enjoyed his neurotic point of view for more than twenty years.
His major film credits include Leaving Las Vegas, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Wagons East!, Once Upon A Crime, Hugo Pool, The Maze, and The Wrong Guys (in which he plays himself). He starred for four seasons on the ABC sitcom "Anything But Love." He has also been a guest on Howard Stern's radio show.
Other credits include television appearances on SNL's "Funny or Die," FOX's "The Simpsons," CW's "Everybody Hates Chris," ABC's "George Lopez," NBC's "Las Vegas," WB's "7 th Heaven," CBS's "Two and a Half Men," USA's "Rude Awakening," HBO's "The Larry Sanders Show," ABC's "Alias," and FOX's "Daddy Dearest" with Don Rickles.
