In 2003 he directed his first short film, De l’autre coté, which was screened in many festivals around the world, including the International Critics’ Week at Cannes, Locarno, Venice, and received the Breakthrough Prize of the French Union of Film Critics, the Special Jury Prize of the Poitiers Film Festival, the Best Film Award at the Tangier Film Festival and the Quality Award from the CNC (National Center for Cinema). In 2005, he directed Quelques miettes pour les oiseaux, a documentary shot along the Iraqi border, on the Jordanian side. The film was shown in many festivals and received a number of awards, including the Press Prize at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival.
