Biography

Pelayo Lira is a director and screenwriter. After attending university in Chile, he studied screenwriting at EICTV in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. In 2012 and 2013 he attended a creative writing seminar at the Universidad de Chile, and in 2013 he led a course in stage communication at the Universidad Andrés Bello.

Before creating his feature debut Kingdoms he shot several short films, including El asombro (screened in the Talento Nacional section of the 5th Santiago International Film Festival – SANFIC) and Pasto Seco (shown at the Valdivia IFF). His short film La visita del cangrejo won the national competition at SANFIC 2012, competed at BioBioCine and FECID, and was screened at the Cartagena IFF.

He also worked as assistant director on several major Chilean movie projects, including Plants (Las plantas), which was a hit at the 66th Berlinale.
