Charlotte "Lotte" Reiniger (1899-1981) was a director, animator and pioneer in shadow animation techniques. Fascinated with East Asian shadow theater and opportunities for film tricks, she collaborated on films by Paul Wegener. Her directorial animation productions encompass fairy-tale and fantasy stories. She made dozens of short films, making her full-length debut with the famous The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed, 1926).
