Biography
Pawel Pawlikowski (b. 1957, Warsaw) has lived in the UK since 1971. He read literature and philosophy at Oxford and began making movies in the 1980s. At first he shot documentaries for the BBC, mixing fact and fiction in a highly original and poetic way; titles include From Moscow to Pietushki (1991), Dostoevsky's Travels (1991), Serbian Epics (1992), and Tripping with Zhirinovsky (1995). In 1999 he shot the low-budget, made-for-TV movie Twockers. Then came the features Last Resort (2000 – KVIFF 2001) and My Summer of Love (2004). The pair garnered many festival awards, as well as a BAFTA apiece. In 2011 he shot the mystery thriller The Woman in the Fifth (La femme du Vème).
