He moved to the Basque Country as a child and at an early age began learning on his own about the art of filmmaking. His first short film, Por un infante difunto (1998), was acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, and was awarded best short film at the Cannes International Film Festival International Critics Week in 1998. Tinieblas’ second short, The Raven (1999), was nominated by the Spanish Film Academy and selected for the Official Section at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. Ecosistema is his third short film.
