Our Time Will Come (2017)

English I don't find the period when Japan occupied Hong Kong very attractive, so I unfortunately suffered through this film. The first hour was still okay, with Eddie Peng doing some decent liquidation, then the more dramatic part comes in, the action goes by the wayside and the film focuses mainly on the women, so boredom is inevitable. Nothing for me 40%

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

English I don't understand how this Clint Eastwood war flick completely flew under my radar. It is a very decent affair from the viewpoint of the Korean people, where Clint beautifully shows that not all the soldiers were fanatics of the Emperor, but there were people with hearts who felt fear. The film has decent war scenes with no shortage of gore and features some very powerful moments (the shooting a family's dog and a mass sacrifice). 85%.

Cashback (2006)

English An enjoyable British comedy with offbeat actors, time stopping and the most naked women I've ever seen in a film, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The icing on the cake is the naked Swedish woman on the stairs, or the little girl showing her pussy to the boys for a pound, that's what I call business! :D 75%

Mother! (2017)

English Darren Aronofsky is a director who rarely suits me with his work, he makes a lot of controversial films for his audience, but with this one he absolutely blew me away and proved that he has balls. Mother! is an acting tour-de-force of great actors: an excellent Jennifer Lawrence, who reaches the bottom of her acting abilities and gives an Oscar-winning performance, the same can be said about Javier Bardem, and the participation of Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer is very good, a dream casting for a horror-thriller. The premise is very interesting and I can say this is a great nightmare that I guess nobody would like to experience. The romantic idyll of a happy couple in a beautiful big house starts to be disturbed by uninvited guests, which start to increase and towards the end the house literally becomes a battleground! The film has a very stiffing and uncomfortable atmosphere, for the first time in a long time I was really anxious to the point of being uncomfortable while watching it. The last half hour escalates to the point where my mind was boggled by all the things the director dared to show, and at times he was almost explicitly rude to the audience, girls will definitely turn closed their eyes and the hardened viewers will "snort". During the final twist a lot of people in the cinema said “What the Fuck!" A lot of people may get upset, I personally was very surprised by something so original and strangely interesting. A gritty paranoid, hallucinogenic, intelligent and atmospheric thriller, the likes of which hasn't been seen in the last few years. The finale is the kind of WTF freakout that I want to repeat immediately. The movie will definitely divide audiences into two groups: very satisfied and very angry viewers; I belong to the former. 85%.

Before the Flood (2016)

English I'm not much of a documentary person, but given that it features Leonardo DiCaprio and is about our planet and how we are destroying it, it is a very interesting, entertaining affair that unexpectedly entertained me more than I had hoped. Very good. Everyone should see it. 80%.

Despicable Me 3 (2017)

English The first one was great, the second one was average and the third one is slightly below average. Not very good, really. 50%

The Limehouse Golem (2016)

English An average atmospheric thriller set in London, where the serial killer Golem is on the rampage. I can usually stomach films like this, the dirty streets of London, hookers, rats and blood create a very dark atmosphere, but here there is hardly any of the above. Bill Nighy is very old and Olivia Cooke is cute. It's a great pity that the film focuses more on the crime line and the theatre scenes, until the interesting twist at the end, which is quite unexpected and surprisingly and nicely brutal. If it weren't for the last 15 minutes I would go even lower with the rating. 55%

The House (2017)

English A cool comedy where Will Ferrel isn't as foul-mouthed as usual, but still entertaining. The idea is pretty decent, but the jokes are too few for my taste. The film goes by quickly and with an 80 minute running time it thankfully doesn't get boring. I had fun, but I smiled rather than laughed. For Ferrell fans, however, a must. 65%.

The Merciless (2017)

English I expected more based on the excellent trailer, but I'm not really upset. The visuals are again top-notch, the acting is very good, especially Kyeong-gu Seol as the villain is excellent, but also the young Siwan, whom I hadn't heard of before, surprised me. There's not that much action, but when it comes to it the fights, they are properly gritty, the unexpected twists and turns in the plot are interesting, and I liked the prison scenes, so the individual segments are great stylistically, but overall I think it's better than good. I didn't enjoy it enough to go for 4*. 70%.

God of War (2017)

English A brisk historical blockbuster from China with a great Vincent Zhao and a funny looking Sammo Hung (fortunately he was just a glimpse here, as he looked terrible). There's quite a lot of action here and thankfully it is R-rated, although it's not overly brutal, occasionally a head or arm go flying. Unfortunately I found the action too monotonous and uninspired towards the end. The story is very weak, but I wasn't bored. 65%
