Red Sparrow (2018)

English Sexy Jennifer Lawrence in an erotically cool spy thriller. I definitely think that if David Fincher had been in charge (he was supposed to direct it) it would have been a bigger hit, but it's still a decent thriller that isn't afraid of nudity and blood. Jennifer Lawrence is very sexy here and shows up full frontal naked, which will please many a male eye, as will the traditionally excellent Joel Edgerton. The hard training Jennifer undergoes in Russia to become a Red Sparrow is filmed very effectively, the psychological weight and erotic tension is omnipresent. At times the 140-minute running time drags in certain sequences and some editing wouldn't hurt, but I didn't find myself downright bored. The final torture and the denouement are excellent. A solid film that avoids the mainstream thanks to its eroticism and brutality and offers an unconventional story that hasn't been in cinemas for a while. 75%

Forgotten (2017)

English An excellent mystery psycho thriller that I almost missed, so thank you LangiJ for the lure. At first the film seems like a mundane drama where a family moves into a new house with a room that can't be opened and strange noises coming from it. Soon one of the two brothers is violently attacked and kidnapped, and returns 19 days later with no memory of anything, and his behaviour has changed dramatically. This is more or less just a sketch for the first half, then the film brutally flips on its head, throwing one shocking twist after another, culminating in the brutal murder of the family in the house, for which the film takes full marks from me. It's perfectly thought out, original, suspenseful and unusual. Some may complain that it's too overwrought and not everything would make sense in reality, but I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller and those details don't distract me. I recommend it. Is it me, or is Netflix buying Korea already?? 85%.

The Greatest Showman (2017)

English A wonderful story and one of the best musicals. The songs are very fine and thankfully not at all annoying. Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum is superb, but it's also a pleasure to see Rebecca Ferguson, whose voice brings down not only the house but my apartment, the cool Zac Efron and the gorgeous Zendaya, who is quite possibly a new discovery of beauty. I've always liked the circus environment, so I enjoyed not only the recruitment of talented people, but also the performances themselves. A very nice, moving and beautiful experience.80%

Straight Outta Compton (2015)

English I'm not a big fan of Hip Hop and Rap, but I don't mind. F. Gary Gray brought spirit to the film and definitely made the best film in the genre. On the one hand a gangster film about black people having a hard time in America, on the other hand the birth of the current stars in the Hip Hop scene. Ice Cube pulls the whole film, but also the young Snoop Dogg and Doctor Dre are great. There's a lot of swearing, the story is engaging and the action at the hotels after the concert is properly wild. A gritty, sad, engaging story that gave me goosebumps a few times. Fuck the Police. An exceptional experience that I must pay in gold. 90%.

Altered Carbon (2018) (series)

English A sci-fi gem serving up a fanboy's wet dream in nine hours. Altered Carbon has everything a proper series should have and also meets the strictest criteria of the sci-fi genre. Blade Runner-like visuals, Neo Noir detective fiction, Cyberpunk atmosphere, hardcore erotic scenes (no shortage of titties, pussies and even dicks) and, most importantly, dense and nasty gore scenes. Joel Kinnaman plays the main character with grace and the Mexican beauty Martha Higareda is a great cherry on the cake. It's got excellent pacing, great action scenes, nicely dosed twists, a nicely tangled story with multiple lines that fit together like a puzzle at the end, great bad guys, and the twisted world itself is more than impressive. It's very fucked up in places and weaker characters may not be able to stomach it. Torture in virtual reality, you don't want that! And a brothel in space where customers can choose a woman, a man or a 7 year old child is something I've never experienced in exploitation. Satisfying in every way, and if in the second season they go with a program where the dead come back to life to find their killers, then we have something to look forward to again. Number one this year! Scene Highlight: The elevator massacre, the fight with the naked clones, Lizzie in action. 95%.

In a Better World (2010)

English I avoided the film for two years, but today I can say that it was in vain. Once again Scandinavia did not disappoint, serving up a steamy thriller about bullying intertwined with a gritty war in Africa, and both lines work perfectly. I liked the child actors and their fathers, there are some uncomfortable gritty scenes and I had a great time throughout, so satisfaction. A solid film in all respects. Very pleased with Ulrich Thomsen from Banshee. 80%

Amélie (2001)

English A French oddity that nearly bored me to death. I didn't find it funny at all, let alone entertaining or intelligent. The visuals and the acting are repulsive and the script is not very interesting. I really don’t get how this can be the 24th favourite. Thumbs down for me. 40%.

The Front Line (2011)

English A solid Korean war film from the skilful Jang Hoon. It doesn't reach the quality of My Way or Brotherhood of War, but still a decent affair. Technically solid, with well shot battles (too bad they were hardly bloody) and a surprising killing of own soldiers. Decent. 75%.

Pitch Perfect 3 (2017)

English Third time's the charm. Anna Kendrick is classically very sweet, Rebel Wilson is cracking and very entertaining, Hailee Steinfeld has a decent step forward in my opinion. The songs are traditionally fine, and the more action-packed ending is pleasing. I had a lot of fun watching this chick flick. 65%

The Ugly Truth (2009)

English An excellent romantic comedy with a great central duo. Gerard Butler is properly cheeky and his sexual innuendos to women carry the whole film. Katherine Heigl is very cute and properly sassy. Great dirty fun with a novel idea... 80%
