The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - The Star-Spangled Man (2021) (episode)

English Why Falcon and Winter Soldier feel like a couple of bored small-town detectives is hard to say, but the action on the road is solid and the new Captain America is a character with interesting potential. At first it looks like a parody, but the appearance is deceptive and it quickly gains in "strength". It will be interesting to see the future confrontation that looks inevitable in the hands of the writers.

Riders of Justice (2020)

English A hybrid that has almost everything. That wouldn't be so unusual, but what is extremely extraordinary is how cleverly and sophisticatedly the filmmakers were able to combine the different aspects of the film together and what a whole they managed to make out of it. A bit of a guy drama full of weirdos, a bit of John Wick, occasionally a black comedy with typically Nordic, goofy humour and grunting actors.

Mortal Kombat (2021)

English Some good stuff that primarily involves action scenes, excellent fatalities that directly honour the game and some fantastic visual effects. Then it only gets worse. Of the characters, the most interesting is the duel Sub Zero vs Scorpion, here and there Kano winks at the viewer with a catchphrase and Sonya with a kick, the rest is not worth mentioning. The legendary Liu Kang and Lord Raiden from the original film are just there to for fan service, and Mortal Kombat without a tournament as such it's dull wilderness. If they cut and edit it, maybe.

The Father (2020)

English An incredibly fresh cinematic probe into the issue of old age and the slow decline of both the physical and primarily the psychological that is uniquely turned around and dissected in detail from the perspective of the patient, not the people around them, so we don’t get any corny tearful scenes or any other similar mining of emotions. Zeller goes about it in a sophisticated, at times almost detective-like manner, and the phenomenal performance of Anthony Hopkins doesn't give the viewer a chance to breathe. Within the genre, an unusual atypical film that is worth seeing, although it is not an easy watch.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008)

English The absurdity of the pretext of the greatest war in human history through the eyes of a young boy. At times war satire, at times bitter comedy, here and there just a sensitive and slightly corny boy's odyssey. There are no outright shocking moments, the filmmakers go in a slightly different direction and thanks to the short running time everything moves quickly and smoothly. Certainly, an important film about WWII.

Straight Outta Compton (2015)

English A brash, lively and authentic biopic that summarises everything about NWA from their beginnings in progressive hip hop to their break-up. It’s also quite thorough in its coverage of both the personal lives of the stars and the issues of racial intolerance and discrimination of the time. All this in a raw exhibition of Libatique's cinematography and superbly edited musical numbers. Also, the casting is excellent.

Promising Young Woman (2020)

English It's a refreshing mix of an unadventurous romantic relationship film and a drama with a social subtext. The film opens up and tackles today's hot topics such as the ills of social networks, sexual violence and, last but not least, the eternal well of ideas in the form of pigeonholing and clientelism. At times it feels a bit like Basic Instinct without the explicit violence, Jerry Goldsmith and the ice pick, but it is endearingly nerdy or, coldly formulaic and sophisticated. Mulligan in her best role in years and thank goodness the ending isn't messed up and needlessly overdone. The only thing that really jumps out at you are the occasional moments where the characters can do 100 different things, but they do the one that fits the story so that the plot can continue.

Seaspiracy (2021)

English At Gamechanger level. Even though some of the information may be slightly out of context and not entirely accurate, it's still a damn sad statement of what's going on around us even if you subtract the 20 percent "seriousness" of the fact that not everyone is fishing in monster numbers and not every company is lying and cheating. But it's still thematically strong and in many ways shocking, the dark side of what's being done to feed humanity and, more importantly, to make money.

Nobody (2021)

English A John Wick alternative with a seemingly goofy plot and without the sometimes complicated kung fu combos. While there's no shortage of fine characters and a fast pace with a very simple script, the second half is merely a clichéd countdown of level-up situations, including the over-the-top finale. By around the halfway mark, the film was set to be an absolute smash, because the bus brawl will belong in the showcase of action films, just like the stairs scene in Atomic Blonde. This guy from Russia could be big in some time.
