Quantum of Solace (2008)

English As worried as I was about whether Forster could make a proper action film, I was pleasantly surprised in this regard. The opening car chase, the planes, the final confrontation in the middle of the desert – all brilliantly filmed. The only problem I have with Quantum of Solace is the somewhat chaotic plot, but maybe that's the way the writers wanted it :)) Nevertheless, there is nothing to fault with the form, though I can't help comparing it to the excellent Casino Royale – in this respect QoS falls short of its predecessor, despite the fact that Casino Royale had considerably less action, but on the other hand benefited from a more elaborate script and a more fluid plot. If the next Bond film is a balanced combination of the two previous installments, it will be a solid hit, we'll see.

Aliens (1986)

English Maybe not as mysterious and full of unanticipated scares as Scott's first, but all the more action-packed and briskly paced sequel to Alien from James Cameron. Qualitatively, I think the first two are on the same level, though each in a slightly different way. :)) 100%

Avatar (2009)

English While the obvious inspiration from Costner, the Wachowski brothers, or Peter Jackson's latest saga doesn't make Avatar a terribly original affair (story-wise), Cameron's superhuman passion does, his incredible attention to detail, and simply the "mere" fact that he has managed to create an amazingly colorful, imaginative, elaborate, and wonderful world guarantee a cinematic experience that really only comes around once every few years. Moreover, the film is emotionally very strong or at least endearing in some moments:)) – at least it was in my case (for example, the main character's bonding with the Na'vi tribe or the choice of the flying creature.)) The dialogue is not distracting, it doesn't hurt your ears, Horner's music fits the scenes exactly. Formally, it is an almost perfect work that will be very difficult to surpass or at least rival in the years to come. I admire and revere James Cameron for the patience and energy with which he waited for the necessary technology to be developed to bring his ideas to life in the most ideal and impressive way possible. Seen in IMAX 3D, 17 Dec 2009, 7:00 p.m.

Dogville (2003)

English May contain hints of spoilers. That people are mostly bastards and have vile and despicable characters, we know, and so does Mr. Lars von Trier, who also has the courage of his convictions to present them in Dogville. What was probably killing me inside the most were the questions I kept repeating to myself: when will they finally let her go? what comes next? what else are these beasts capable of doing?" The almost theatrical treatment with its minimal sets played out in a minimum of space is very imaginative; on the other hand it doesn't necessarily appeal to everyone. The content here clearly outdoes the "small" format, but as has been mentioned many times, the small format gives the whole film a special meaning and in turn further emphasizes what this truly unique film wants to tell us. Fortunately, I was pulled out of my heavy depression and pity for Grace by the ending, which I found very appealing and which I would call a "higher justice", which (unfortunately) we hardly see in the normal world. Let's face it, the vast majority of people will give von Trier the benefit of the doubt (whether they are willing to admit it or not), having experienced something similar themselves (maybe not to the same degree, but it certainly wasn't pleasant). P.S.: I give the maximum rating to either technically perfect films that are nice to watch or "works" that hit me emotionally and make me think. Why I’m giving Dogville 5 stars, therefore, I think everyone knows.))

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002)

English Imaginative, stylish, fresh, and pleasantly Kaufmanesque. George Clooney is both a full-fledged actor and director. And Sam Rockwell in the lead role is without flaw. Still, there was something lacking in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, something I felt was too unfinished to give it the maximum rating. It's about 4.5 stars.

Videodrome (1983)

English A very strange piece of work from Mr. Cronenberg, slightly shocking, scary, and mysterious. The story and script are undoubtedly very interesting and engaging, the form is a little worse, but I guess that was the intention. A better 3 stars

A Perfect Getaway (2009)

English An enjoyable treat that gives the viewer everything their sweet tooth craves. Perfectly shot action, a decent amount of suspense, and a masterfully handled climax – almost "perfect" indeed :))

Lady in the Water (2006)

English I don't know if Monday Night wanted to make a fairy tale or something in the style of The Village or any of his more famous films, but the result is definitely worth a look. The fairy tale story supported by an appealing performance from Paul Giamatti unfortunately "offers" a lot of plot holes, but if you ignore the few Shyamalan excesses, you can enjoy this rather untypical fable with a beautiful score by James Newton Howard (as has become customary).

The Sixth Sense (1999)

English A very well made ghost thriller, supported by great performances with a truly original and shocking conclusion. What I consider Shyamalan's "most intimate" and "thought-out" film.

Bottle Shock (2008)

English Bottle Shock lacks the brisk and playful direction of A Good Year, but as far as the story goes, it offers an enjoyable and interesting story just like its undoubtedly more famous predecessor. A Good Year had Ridley Scott, Bottle Shock has Alan Rickman, who once again excels in his role as the "British Frenchman". The individual characters are very appealingly written and acted as well, and when you add in some truly beautiful shots of Californian vineyards, a reasonable amount of wit, and an overall relaxed and easygoing feel, you have the perfect entertainment for a (more than)one evening (preferably with a girlfriend and a bottle of good wine, of course).
