In the last days of World War II, corporal Molnár deserts with the pay of his battalion, hidden in grenades. He finds shelter in a castle, where a few other deserted Hungarian soldiers hide as well. Albert, the cool-headed butler of baron Drexler, takes care of them. As heroic soldiers, they accept forced labourer Szíjjártó captured by the Hungarian Nazi. They set off to get hold of some food. On their way they save Grisa, the Soviet soldier, hiding in the forester's house. They avoid both the Soviets and Germans. A Hungarian Nazi squad finally reveals them. The hidden pay burns in the oven. Exploiting the situation, they get access to real grenades and when the Nazi want to execute them, they take up the fight. Trying to escape, they get into Soviet captivity. Here they organise their team into a squad. Caporal Molnár is preoccupied with saving his own life, so he is omitted from the squad, and Grisa takes his place. The partisans set off, while the corporal takes the opposite direction. It the end, however, he changes his mind and follows them. (official distributor synopsis)
