At the end of World War II. during the general mobilization, the young poet, Bálint is also declared fit for military service. On the train taking him to the battle-line, he recalls his last few days. He fled to spend a few more nights with his love, Júlia. They visited their old friend in Szentendre who was a painter and who was hiding a French deserter. By the following morning Júlia had disappeared, and the police accused her of illegal activity. They parted each other citing a poem by Apollinaire. The train is blown up out in the open track. The news about Bálint's death is brought to Júlia by the 'Three Kings', the jokers who always has fun on the front and who were fortunate to survive, but they forgot his farewell poem.
