Two years ago, twelve-year-old Ali came to the Netherlands with his parents and sister. They fled from Iran and hope to get a residence permit to be able to live and work in Holland. Ali is very good at chess; he has already won several cups and other prizes. His chess club wants him to participate in the European Chess Championships for juniors. But that is in France, and because Ali is a refugee, he does not have a passport and is not permitted to travel abroad. Ali’s father has not told him this yet, because he feels so sorry for his son. Meanwhile, Ali’s younger sister also brings home chess trophies… (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
