Earth and Water

Two hands build a miniature dam of earth and water. What is happening on a small scale here is happening for real when bulldozers drive across the land to start constructing a dam. Beside machines, many human hands are working on this project that covers many thousands of hectares of land. By showing maps and giving comment the size of the project becomes clear. Engineers are testing the material for the dam. The commentary discusses the advantages of taming the river: the water is necessary for irrigation and energy. "The coming of the dam is the start of a new life." Pictures of increased prosperity and welfare promise a better future for a large part of India. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
