Tamás Endre, the unemployed electric engineer, is to go for a job interview and, at the same time, he is to collect the money sent by his father in a hotel. The man Tamás is sharing a room with has, however, pawned his suit, and therefore he puts on an old tail-coat, which he has borrowed. At the hotel, he is mistakenly thought to be a famous traveller, Tornay Péter, known for his trips to many parts of Africa. Tamás wants to clear this matter, but Tornay convinces him to take his role for a week, so that he could work in peace. Éva, Tornay's niece also learns about the change of roles, and does not hesitate to use Tamás - who has fallen in love with her - in achieving her goals. The family complications resulting from the role-change continue at a country estate and later in Budapest. Finally, both parties decide to lay their cards on the table. The story concludes by Tamás marrying Éva. (official distributor synopsis)
