Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, a.k.a. the hugely popular comedy duo Key & Peele, star as Clarence and Rell, two cousins who live in the city but are far from streetwise. When Rell's beloved kitten, Keanu, is catnapped, the hopelessly straight-laced pair must impersonate ruthless killers in order to infiltrate a street gang and retrieve the purloined feline. But the incredibly adorable kitten becomes so coveted that the fight over his custody creates a gang war, forcing our two unwitting heroes to take the law into their own hands. (Warner Bros. US)

English A cat gangster movie with class; that’s probably the most they could have squeezed out of that idea. But I feel like the movie could work only when the kitten appears on the screen. At that point, the cuteness is on the highest possible level and the viewer gets exactly what they wanted. But the kitten only appears a few times and so most of the time, there’s just these two clowns who have an awfully specific American humor and they sort of kill the movie; it’s funny, but only sometimes. Definitely not always. However, I still think that the subtitle of this movie should be: “anyone who doesn’t watch this movie will cause one kitten to die somewhere in the world.” So go get in a cat mood so that your entire living room reeks of cat cuteness on par with the Cats 24/7 TV station. English Key and Peele are my favourite duo, I've seen all their sketches and they are among the best, so I was curious how they would handle their feature debut and unfortunately it's not the same. The problem here is that they didn't direct the film themselves, so the visuals are not as polished as in the sketches, the humour is not as good and the twists are minimal, only the final one is really surprising. I thought they were quite uncomfortable in their roles, in the sketches they act like Oscar winners, here they were quite overacting. Quite disappointing. 55%. ()

English A cat in the lead role? Yes, actually. It’s a film about two guys trying to save a cat by posing as drug dealers. Of course, things are going to get ugly and there will be a fight to the death. But everything is in a humorous spirit, where only a few scenes may come as a bit of a surprise. However, it manages to maintain an entertaining tone throughout. ()
