Two chorus girls ? two different types - two different fates in love: this is how we could sum up Hitchcock's directorial debut. The Pleasure Garden, the title of the revue by means of which the two girls are entering social life, indicates a somewhat pejorative twist in an otherwise melodramatic story. (Summer Film School)
