Her husband, a talented engineer, having been killed in an accident years ago in America, Mrs. Gáldy Tamás, a widower, lives in poverty in a small village with Tomi, her little son. She herself is sick and dies soon. The orphan child is taken to the house of Gáldy Benedek, a rigorous man, who has no liking for the outspoken, straightforward boy. On a winter day, Tomi, despaired, sneaks out of the house and goes to the cemetery to see his mother's grave, where he falls asleep and is on the verge of freezing to death when Kovács Benedek, his father's friend, just on his way home bringing Tomi his father's inheritance, finds him. Gáldy's exceptional plans seem to have proved to be a success only after his death, making the little boy the owner of a huge fortune. Seeing that the boy is unhappy with the Gáldy family, Kovács takes Tomi with him to America, along with Gáldy Anna, his fiancée, his long-time and faithful love. (official distributor synopsis)
