Kovács, chief cashier, is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his school-leaving exams at the grammar-school. He takes his friends to a night-club. He displays some courage by preventing Barabás from beating Anni. Kovács gets into the habit of going to night-clubs. He ends up stealing money from the office. He is always in the company of Ria, a singer. He starts playing roulette. He also plays cards to win money, trying to get back the money he has embezzled already. Wanted by the police, it is by now clearly downhill for him. He meets Anni in a criminals' dive, where she returns the help that he once gave her. Kovács is on the verge of committing suicide. However, it is still not too late to get back to his normal life. Now is the chance for him to get back the money he has embezzled. Eventually, he is appointed manager of the company.
