Framework story: The journalist skips through the pages he has written, but the editor-in-chief urges him to get further stories, so the young man loses his temper and slaps him on the face.
Two men in the mine: Class hatred suppresses human solidarity between the miner and his chief engineer who both are trapped in the mine due to a mining disaster, yet at the gate of death they join forces.
The knife thrower: Szálka Leó, having financial difficulties and accepting the encouragement of the circus director and his wife, agrees to replace the partner of Gordon, the knife thrower.
Souvenir for Katica: The daughter of the cantor, Katica meets a nice young man on the road and invites him to their house. Next day, at the wedding of Katica the stranger plays a wonderful music on the church organ. The bride's father hurries up to him emotionally touched, to say thanks, but he can only find a message: "As a souvenir for Katica, Liszt Ferenc".
