Ken Harrison is an artist that makes sculptures. One day he is involved in a car accident, and is paralyzed from his neck. All he can do is talk, and he wants to die. In hospital he makes friends with some of the staff, and they support him when he goes to trial to be allowed to die. (official distributor synopsis)

A nice surprise. I don't particularly like dramas from hospitals, but this one is so well written and so well acted that I just couldn't break away. The character of the eccentric sculptor who is paralyzed and loses everything he loved in life is fantastic, full of life and contradictions. I appreciate that the film does not encourage a clear answer and the dilemma of whether "one has the right to decide whether one's life is worth living" ultimately feels beautifully open. It stops somewhere between depression and relief. Badham's film simply opens up an issue, draws you into it, and concludes with an eloquent three dots. I like this drama. ()
