My Childhood

  • France Trilogie Bill Douglas : My Childhood et My Ain Folk (more)

Plots(1)

Set in 1945, the first part of Bill Douglas’ poetic and profoundly stirring autobiographical triptych revisits his impoverished childhood, living with his grandmother and half-brother in the Scottish mining village of Newcraighall. The austere but beautiful black-and-white camerawork perfectly captures the harsh realities of an existence which finds the eight-year-old Jamie often seeking solace from the movies as a respite from the realities of poverty, an absent father and a mentally-ill mother.
