Reaching deep into the past, this prequel begins with the king as a 13-year-old peasant boy (Michael Copon) who witnesses the kidnapping and death of his father at the hands of the terrifying Sargon (Randy Couture). Thirsty for vengeance, young Mathayus trains at the Order of the Black Scorpion to sharpen his skills as a killing machine, then journeys to the underworld to retrieve the one sword that can help him defeat Sargon. After the first one, which is quite enjoyable, fun, action-packed, and has The Rock, the sequel came along, which has absolutely nothing going for it. An incredibly weak film with ridiculous acting performances, awful characters, and a terrible screenplay that couldn't recognize originality if it hit it like a speeding train. But most importantly, it's so repulsively filled with digital effects that it's truly unbearable to watch.
