This chilling compilation film put together using footage from British newsreels is a remarkable combination of criticism and pointed satire. Cavalcanti offers a portrait of Italy’s fascist dictator Benito Mussolini the same year that Italy declared war on Great Britain. A demonstrative protest against fascism, the film offers political and personal layers, for instance when the Italian dictator poses in costume, on official occasions, and scenes from his private life.
