Desperate for a fresh start after a tough two years in Chicago, the Solomon family retreats to a desolate sunflower farm in North Dakota. But the calm of farm life is shattered when 16-year-old Jess (Kristen Stewart) and her 3-year-old brother Ben begin to see nightmarish apparitions throughout their new home, visions that nobody else can see. As the visions grow darker, they become fear-inspiring experiences and Jess' parents (Dylan McDermott and Penelope Ann Miller) start to question their daughter's sanity. Now, Jess must find a way to save her family. (official distributor synopsis)

English The Messengers is a weak version of a hackneyed story, with an ending totally botched up by major lapses in logic. ()

English A horror film for beginners or those slightly advanced, for Kristen Stewart fans, for those who don't mind films that rip off better known and better works, and last but not least, for Sam Raimi fans who are curious to see what he has done with his name this time. I have to say that I generally liked The Messengers, in a safe sort of way. It looks decent, LoDuca's music is reliably atmospheric, Kristen Stewart can be sympathetically frightening when she needs to be... Don't expect anything surprising, "only" a new take on something you've seen before, which (hopefully) won't lull you to sleep thanks to its reasonable runtime. ()
