Charlie Brooker, the creator of the BBC-Channel4 project Black Mirror, has himself defined the series saying: "If technology is a drug – and it does feel like it – then what, precisely, are the side-effects? This area – between delight and discomfort – is where Black Mirror is set. Smithereens (2019) (S05E02)
Tension, tension, tension. It reminded me of the very first episode of Black Mirror, The National Anthem, which I think is a pretty good calling card.

Rachel, Jack and Ashley too (2019) (S05E03)
I watched this episode on the day Paul McCartney announced that he would use AI to recreate John Lennon's voice into "The Beatles' last song". So while Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too is mostly hyperbole, you can't ignore its cautionary finger – the middle one probably in this case.

Joan Is Awful (2023) (S06E01)
It's a great episode, but I didn't realize it until about half an hour in. By then I was wondering what had happened to Black Mirror, and in the context of the current actors' strike and the reasons for it, I asked myself whether Charlie Brooker had predicted the future, or if the present had caught up with his fears.
