Jóska, the holder of a ranch near the Ukrainian border, renders the lives of his limping, mentally sick father and his spinster sister unbearable by his habitual drinking in excess, and then breaking whatever he comes across and beating up his family. Mari finds a wife for him by communicating with a relative in Beregszász. Although Jóska gets stiff drunk at the wedding already, Liza tries to make a home of the house, mostly to no effect. Becoming a father, Jóska carries on as before, and, in secret, Liza wants to move with Ányocska to the Ukraine, but in lack of a passport she doesn't manage to, and she is even faced with the beginning of guardianship procedures. They flee from the authorities, hide, stay at some temporary refuge, and try to survive in Budapest. As if they were swinging on a rubber rope over the Danube. (Budapest Film)
