Virgil Kidder hasn't been in Waco for quite a spell, but now that he's back in town clowning in the rodeo, his troubles are catching up with him quicker than a Brahma bull. Country star Dwight Yoakam makes his leading role debut as Kidder, a "painted hero" who's at his best - and safest - when he's taunting the meanest bulls in the business. It's only when the paint comes off, that the real danger strikes on a wild Waco weekend filled with thrills, spills and more twists than an eight-second bull ride. After high-tailing it out of town some years back, Virgil finds that some things have changed...and some others, unfortunately, have stayed the same. There's Brownie (Bo Hopkins), a good 'ol boy who knows Virgil's clown antics can pack his rodeo. His ex, Kate, the woman Virgil left high and dry with their infant son. There's Teresa, a pasty-white "vampire" who not only has a thing for Virgil, but a big stake in his future. And of course there's Sheriff Gil Acuff, a man hell-bent on settling a score that goes back half a dog's life. Between the ghouls of his present and the ghosts of his past, Virgil must figure out a way to preserve his future before it's too late. For some folks, it already is. (official distributor synopsis)
