1944. Dirty, sleepless, seething Naples, filled with lights and shouts, will soon be taken over by the Americans. In one yard there is more clamor than in the rest of them: the entire household is giving birth to a child. They will name the girl Vittoria, but there won't be any other victories in the yard. Half a century of turmoil lies ahead and Naples will be restless like a feverish patient in the frenzy of poverty and red banners, swaying from the opera scale to the melancholy resulting from the presence of the muddy sea.
